About
From Portland, OR. Sort of.
I was born in Nebraska, but moved to Portland when I was 7 (a long time ago). My particular brand of weird ended up blossoming in ‘90s Portland, and I found my joy in the arts. First in music with my family, then in theatre with acting and performing. When I had my son at 20, I did a pivot (PIVOT!) into teaching, eventually settling into a Montessori classroom. I was able to channel my love of the arts into creating activities for the children, all while learning and growing as a human being myself.
When my son was older, I went back to school for my degree in film, where I rediscovered my love of writing and directing. I also learned that I have a knack for editing, which came in handy as I began working as a one-stop-shop for local artists who needed videos made for different reasons. Soon I was moonlighting as a freelance videographer in my off hours, and loving every second of it!
Since my graduation in 2016, I have worked professionally in multiple different capacities. I’ve filmed graduation application videos for opera students at Portland State University. I have been lucky enough to stay in touch with a few of them, and it’s been wonderful seeing their careers grow. I’ve filmed live opera performances that thrilled me to tears. I’ve been challenged to edit and repair footage and sound that was gathered hastily, with the hope of salvaging it in time for a submission date. I have worked with other artists, musicians whose dreams and enthusiasm was inspiring. Collaboration can be so rewarding!
My goal for the future is threefold: First, to continue to make art, whether it be personal projects or commissioned pieces. Two, to find and tell the stories that fall through the cracks. And three, to be of use and do good through the previous two, as much and as joyfully as possible.
